Sports Massage isn't just for athletes! #MpowerD #MpowerDLife #massage #sportsmassage #manualtherapy1/10/2019 When was the last time you had a massage?Defining Sports Massage varies from provider to provider and even instructor to instructor. Often times if a person goes to a big box massage establishment and ask what does is mean to get a sports massage, the answer may be, "We do really deep work, " or "We do deep tissue and then stretch you." I would suggest finding an establishment that specializes in athletes as this is not what Sports Massage is supposed to be.
Let's get a few things cleared up... 1. Sports Massage IS NOT just for those who play sports! Everyone can benefit from the vast techniques that make up Sports Massage. 2. A safe and appropriate Sports Massage can only be done IF the therapist knows the context under which it will be given; pre-event, post event, maintenance, etc. 3. Sports Massage can at times be very uncomfortable but this does not mean is has to be extremely painful. There is not a "NO PAIN, NO GAIN" concept. So as an MpowerD Therapist, we have been trained in dozens of different techniques, sometimes in a long certified program, perhaps a one-day training, or an online class, and probably most beneficial, with our colleagues. At MpowerD we spend a number of hours each month learning and sharing information and trying to improve our assessment skills, treatment modalities, amd follow up plans. Then we constantly challenge ourselves on how to handle different clients and their needs. We have the freedom to use any technique we believe will relieve your pain, free up your tissue, and make you move more freely! We love having that freedom. We realize it is a serious responsibility and at every decision we use diplomacy! We consider all that you have said and what your goals are and we come up with the treatments and techniques to help you. This takes a deep understanding about soft tissues, movement, pain patterns, etc.
